We of the Barotse National Freedom Alliance (BNFA) are deeply disturbed, perturbed and dismayed by the statement attributed to the Zambia Police ‘Service’ Public Relation office issued on 25th November 2014 and aired on MUVI TV the evening of the same day. A subsequent Radio interview by the Deputy Police Spokesperson Mr. Ray Hamoonga was aired on ZNBC Radio 2 in the morning of 27th November 2014 at around 08:30hrs and quoted in the current affairs program ‘Radio News Reel’ after 13:30 hrs on the same day. The Barotse National Freedom Alliance (BNFA) reiterates the position which existed in Barotseland for the past decade whereby the Bemba and Nyanja languages have been imposed on the people as a way of subjugating them. The people of Barotseland have been repulsive against the machinations to enslave them through foreign languages. We draw the attention of the readers to the press release of 23rd January 2007.

We, members of Barotse Imilemas (BIs)—a youth activist group advocating for Barotseland’s right to self-determination and self-rule—on our own behalf and indeed on behalf of the down trodden people of Barotseland, wish to register our dismay and utter disgust at the continued harassment by the occupying Zambian police force and other so called Zambia ‘Security’ agents currently flooding Barotseland. We warned the police officers and other security agents that they are carefully being monitored and their activities shall land them at The Hague.
